| Teen Traffic Facts |
- Automobile crashes are the leading cause of death and injury to teens in the United States.
- In the year 2003, more than three times more teens died on our highways than all the people killed in the attack on the twin towers in New York.
- Law enforcement classifies over 70% of all teen crashes as "Avoidable."
- The death of a teen in an automobile crash results in a divorce almost 60% of the time.
- Automobile crashes are the leading cause of epilepsy.
- Injury producing crashes involving teens cost Florida taxpayers over 3.5 billion dollars in 2003.
- Over 40% of all teen drivers will have a crash within the first 12 months of getting their operators license.
- Alcohol and drugs are not the leading cause of teen crashes. It's inexperience. Nationally, alcohol or drugs cause less than 3% of teen crashes. (Where the teen is the one drinking or doing drugs)
- Behind-the-wheel training has proven effective at reducing teenage crashes, injuries and deaths. (see C.A.T. program)
